    Description

This is another nice piece being offered, it is an early 1820's to 1830's Virginia 1-piece button often worn by Virginia Troops during the Civil War. It measures 22mm and has the classic Virginia state seal in the center with "VIRGINIA" at the top and "SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS" – some of the gold gilt still remains. This is the motto of Virginia which translates to "THUS UNTO TYRANTS".
The back has the shank remaining and what is interesting is some of the original cloth/thread remains on it. It has a clear backmark of "EXTRA FINE GILT". In Alberts Button book this button is classified as a VA2.
Overall, this is a nice Confederate button in good condition. I have seen these buttons sell between 0 - 0. This is one of the more difficult buttons to find.
