SS Henry Knox: This 441 foot long WW II Liberty Ship was named in the general's honor. The vessel was delivered on 13 May 1942 by the California Shipbuilding Corp. in Los Angeles. This proud new ship transported vital supplies overseas to US and Allied Forces during WW II. Unfortunately, the vessel was torpedoed in 1943 off the Maldive Islands and was lost.
General Henry Knox: was a American Revolutionary War General. A bookstore owner, he joined the Sons of Liberty and was able transport cannon from Fort Ticonderoga to break the Siege of Boston for General Washington's forces. He fought in most of the major Revolutionary War battles and set up training camps for artillery units and the manufacturing shops for weapons. After the war he became President Washington's Secretary of War. He retired to Maine in 1795 and died in 1806, at age 56.
