    Description

For sale is one non-dug, two-piece, coat size (21 mm), pre Civil War era William Henry Harrison US Presidential campaign of 1840 button.
Albert writes that the "campaign of 1840... represents the 'high-water' mark in the use of [shank-type] buttons for political purposes... more than fifty pro-Harrison [types] have been reported."  As such, these buttons were widely owned before the War and there are examples reportedly dug at Civil War sites.
This button is specifically listed as Albert's PC146A with the depressed-mark backmark "R & W ROBINSON" on a swallowtail ribbon with eagle.  Tice pictures and dates this backmark to c.1834-48, but clearly in this case this example dates to c.1840.
This example is in very good condition with some light wear, a bent shank (see side image), a minor scratch above the end of "ROBINSON" on the reverse, and a nice patina.
For shipping, we use well-padded boxes, typically ship same- or next-day, and always combine costs on multiple lots (plus USPS insurance over 0).
