Since listing the item, I received the following information from a viewer:
Actually this eagle button is not the Civil War period eagle button. What you have is the button that was fielded with the Pattern 1873 Fatigue Jacket. It is a different eagle from that used on the Civil War eagle button and they are both distinctive to their time period. The long-necked, stubby-winged, chicken-looking eagle is the later time period. I attach an image of the Civil War eagle button for your comparison. Still collectible but would do better in a more appropriate category (Indian Wars - Span Am War) as you will reach more people with an interest. Civil War collectors will know this is not a Civil War button. Thanks for listening.
