    Description

For sale is one two-piece, non-dug, cuff- or kepi-size (15 mm) Civil War era State of Vermont button.  Tice writes that "small buttons of this [stag's head] pattern were used with large [VT230 / VT9] coat of arms buttons during the 1855-1860s period" and were replaced by "small size buttons of [the VT230] design ... after the Civil War".
With a depressed-mark "SCOVILL. / MFG. CO." backmark, this button is listed as Albert's VT9Av and as Tice's VT235As.   On page 36 (B-9/8) Tice pictures this backmark and dates its use beginning circa 1860.
This example is in poor condition with significant evidence of wear or use as shown.  The areas of discoloration that appear blue here are darker and less distinctive in-hand.
For shipping, we use well-padded boxes, typically ship same- or next-day, and always combine costs on multiple lots (USPS insurance required over 0).
