    Description

C-117 SKYTRAIN Douglas, USAF Aircraft on first day cover with a postmark from Liberty, MO. dated June 15, 2020.
Color printed photo of aircraft on cachet #1098 by Alvin Eckert, USCS #9964. The cover was prepared on  a 55 cent flag star stamped, gummed, envelope # U-700 (FDOI) plus a 32 cent DC-3 stamp # 3142"Q".
The C-117 was a twin-engine, propeller driven, based on the DC-3 airliner. This is also the C-47 version, transport aircraft for VIP and troop transport. Introduced in 1950s, it served until replaced by the new jet propelled transports. See the aircraft's web pages for details of the design, construction and disposition.
